Product Spotlight: Gold Highlighters

So the other day I finally got my hands on Champagne Pop from Becca, and it inspired me to post about my favorite golden highlights! Highlighter are probably my favorite make up product, they really improve any look, and there are so many different colors. So without further ado, lets get into my favorite gold highlights!

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop $38.00

Everyone went nuts when this came out. It was only supposed to be a limited edition item, but people loved it so much that Becca Cosmetics decided to make it permanent. I know understand the hype. This, to me, is the absolute perfect highlight when I want to look as glowy as possible. This is by no means subtle, so be wary. I love the texture of Becca highlights, they give a lovely sheen without looking chunky or glittery. Since buying this I have yet to wear another highlight. Another thing I love about this is how universal it is. I have used this on a few of my friends and it works on so many different skin tones and types.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in Opal $38.00

This was the first Becca product I ever got. I love this cream formula. I usually pat this on my cheekbones with my fingers, then top it with a powder highlight. It lasts such a long time on my skin, and it makes whatever powder I use with it last longer too. While this swatch might look very similar to Champagne Pop, in person they are noticeably different. Opal seems to have a much rosier undertone, and it is darker.  This goes on so smoothly and doesn’t settle into my pores or lines, which can sometimes be a problem with cream products.

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Gilded Honey $26.00

I started getting into make up right as MAC released Whisper of Guilt, the now famously elusive and beautiful highlight that was sadly limited edition. When I saw swatches of it I fell in love, probably fueled by the classic ‘wanting what I can’t have.’ This highlight by Laura Geller was being raved about as a perfect dupe for Whisper of Guilt, and I had to try it. It was sold out at Ulta forever, so I found myself checking online constantly. When it came back in stock I ordered it immediately. I was a bit disappointed by how tiny the product was, and the packaging was kind of rinky for the price, but damn if I don’t love this highlight. It is such a stunning, vibrant true gold. As you can see from the swatch, this is super pigmented and intense, so a little goes a very long way. The texture of this is kind of hard to explain, it is a powder but not a true powder if that makes sense. This lasts forever on my skin, and looks great with both warm and cool looks. If you buy any gold highlight (and you aren’t afraid of the Jennifer Lopez glow) let it be this one.

theBalm Mary Lou-Manizer $24.00

This is a classic highlight that everyone and their dog has used and loved forever. It is more of a champagne gold than a true gold. This powder is super finely milled so it blends beautifully and never looks patchy or chunky. Like the others, this is a very intense sheen that is not for the faint of heart. I only have two issues with this product: it doesn’t last all that long on my skin, and if you even breath too hard on it, it will shatter. This is my second one because my first one decided one day to completely shatter in the safety of my makeup drawer.

Let me know if you use any of these and your thoughts, and what your favorite gold highlighter is! Thanks for reading!!

Glowingly yours,

Jess
