Spring Forward

So now that the weather is warming up I thought I would share some of my go to products that are perfect for the heat!

Tinted Moisturizer

Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in Sand $44.00

theBalm Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer SPF 18 in Light/Medium $25.00

In the spring and summer you will rarely catch me wearing foundation, because down here in Alabama, it gets hot and muggy, and foundation tends to just slide right off. Instead, I opt for something a little lighter! I love tinted moisturizers because they go on so smoothly and feel so light on the face. My two favorites are the Laura Mercier Oil Free, and Balm Shelter by theBalm. I love that you can just throw these on with your fingers, and they blend so beautifully because they are basically just a moisturizer. I like to wear the Laura one when I’m going to be outside more because it has more SPF, and we all know how important sunscreen is!

Bright Blush

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta $38.00

CoverGirl TruBlend Blush in Medium Rose $9.99

Nothing screams sunshine and spring like a bright pink blush! In the spring and summer I tend to gravitate more towards glowy, baked products as opposed to mattes, because they just make the face pop so much more. These two blushes are both beautiful, but are on very different ends of the price spectrum. These new Covergirl blushes are really amazing. They are baked, which just looks so much more natural without losing any color payoff. The Hourglass isn’t baked, but has pigments from the Ambient Lighting Powders throughout it, making it look super glowy and subtle on the cheeks.

Bronze Glow

NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna $39.00

Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strip in Vegas Strip $7.79

Bronzers were made to be worn during the warmer months. A nice sun-kissed glow goes perfectly with any spring or summer look. These are two very different bronzers, one is more subtle while the other is basically a highlight. NARS Laguna is a cult classic, and I can completely understand why. It gives such a natural bronze, but it can also be built up to a a much more dramatic tan. The Shimmer Strip on the other hand goes on dramatic with one swipe. I also use this product as eye shadow sometimes, it is very versatile!

Liquid Highlight

Benefit Watts Up! Cream to Powder Highlighter $30.00

Benefit High Beam Liquid Highlighter $26.00

I am highlight obsessed, and for good reason. I personally think that the right highlight can make or break a look. In the summer months I love using cream and liquid highlighters because they really intensify the whole “wet” look that is very coveted right now. They also last the longest, especially when it gets humid or rainy. These two products are from Benefit, a brand that makes great liquid face colors. High Beam is very watery, it feels almost like a nail polish. It is a super icy pink color that looks so stunning with a simple eye look. I sometime add a drop of this to my foundations if I feel they make me look a little flat. On the other hand, Watts Up is a cream to powder formula, meaning that once you blend it out, it sets like a powder would. The color is a beautiful champagne gold that can be put on subtly or built up for a more intense glow.

Setting Spray

Skindinavia The Make Up Finishing Spray $39.00

NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray $7.99

You can create the most beautiful summer look, and then step outside and it all melts off. My number one spring and summer make up must have is a good setting spray. My favorite spray to use is the Skindinavia Finishing Spray. This stuff makes my make up last forever. It can be a little pricey though, so I wanted to include a more budget friendly option. NYX makes a few really great setting sprays with different finishes. I really love the dewy one because it sets my makeup without making me look totally matte and flat. MY biggest tip for make up spray though is to apply it before you add mascara, because it sometimes causes it to stay wet and smudge.

Warm Shadows

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze $6.99

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Weenie $5.00

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Kathleenlights $5.00

The classic warm, shimmery eye look will never go out of style to me. These three shades are my favorite to use because they are cream (ish) shadows so once they set I find that they stay the longest and look to most intense. With colors like these, you don’t need a perfectly crisp, clean look. You can really just throw them on, and the results are a beautifully messy laid back look.

Colorful Eye Liner

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Mildew $20.00

Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Waterproof in My Boyfriend’s Jeans $10.00

Sunshine and day parties are the perfect excuse to break out the bright liners that sit unused in your drawer! A simple eye look can be revamped just by adding a colorful liner on the lower lash line. Pick a color that really compliments your eye color, and you’ll see how much more your eyes pop! For example, I have green eyes, and when I add just a bit of bright purple, they look amazing!

Floral Fragrance

Daisy by Marc Jacobs $25.00-$140.00

Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf $29.00-$215.00

When I think of summer, I think of the smell of flowers and fresh cut grass and sunscreen. I spend all summer wearing floral and sweet perfumes, I just feel like they go so well with summer clothes and looks. These are my two favorite floral scents right now. Daisy has been a favorite of mine for years now, its a classic. Flowerbomb is my new love though, because it lasts forever on my skin, even if I sweat.

Let me know what your spring and summer must haves are! Thanks for reading!!

Glowingly yours,

Jess
