May 2016 Favorites

This month has been so crazy for me! Full of lots of traveling, family, friends, and way too much food. My boyfriend and I made the drive from Alabama to Philadelphia to see my sister go to senior prom, and she asked me to do her make up for it! I packed up my train case with a ridiculous amount of products and I wanted to share the things that I used on the road and at my home all month! Let’s get started!

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer in Alabaster $27.00

I picked up this foundation on the road in Charlotte, as I had had my eye on it for a while but never wanted to buy it online because selecting the right color is not my strong suit. I absolutely love this stuff, from the heavy glass bottle to the large doe foot applicator. This really does look like a giant concealer bottle, and it is so easy to apply. I also really love the consistency of this product, it is just thick enough to conceal everything, but thin enough to look natural and skin-like. I have been using this in conjunction with some of my light weight skin tints and foundations, just on the areas that need a tiny bit more coverage. This lasts forever on my skin and doesn’t oxidize or cake up around my nose (as some heavier foundations tend to do). I will probably not use this as often once I go back to Alabama, because it is just a bit too thick for such intense heat, but once fall and winter come around, I am sure I won’t be able to put this down.

tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Fair-Light Neutral $39.00

I picked this up during the last Sephora VIB sale, and have been obsessed ever since. I already know I will be wearing this all summer. It is so lightweight and feels like nothing on my face. I love water based face products for summer because they feel so nice, even when it gets hot and humid as it always does in Alabama. This is very light to medium coverage, and gives the skin a light, glowy tint. It doesn’t cover up much, and you can still see your skin peaking through, but it blends nicely with concealers and powders, so you can cover what you need. I want to try more from the Rainforest of the Sea line, as I also love the correcting palette. If anyone has tried the concealer that matches this foundation let me know!

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Airbrush Silk Pressed Anti-Aging Finishing Powder $29.00

I have been obsessed with this ever since I got it in the mail, and anyone with large pores should go grab this now. I have oily skin with rouge dry spots that become insanely visible when I use a powder, but not with this product. I love using this to set my under eyes and around my nose and forehead where I tend to look cake very easily. I can apply a million layers of this and it never looks gross and powdery. This truly seems to “airbrush” out the large pores around my nose and chin, and it lasts all day. I used to own the loose powder version of this, but it always balled up and made my face look flakey and dry. I was hesitant to give it another try, but after hearing so many people rave about it I caved, and I couldn’t be happier that I did.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Rhubarb $26.00

“rich plum rose”

Ever since Bite Beauty released this new line of lipsticks, I have been dying to get my hands on one. I have always loved their lip crayons, but never tried any of the lipsticks. I finally bit the bullet and bought this stunning shade, and I have been loving it. These lipsticks are creamy and comfortable on the lips while also being long-lasting and pigmented. I desperately need to get my hands on more of these, the line has so many amazing colors, there’s even a dark green called Kale (I mean c’mon). With every brand throwing liquid lipstick after liquid lipstick at us the past few months, the traditional lipstick can be easily forgotten. Bite Beauty will change that, I can guarantee it.

NYX Butter Gloss in Tirimisu $4.99

I have been all about lip gloss lately, and now that summer is upon us there is nothing I love more than a quick and easy lip product. NYX has always been a drugstore lipstick powerhouse, and I personally prefer their glosses over their lipsticks. The Butter Gloss line is by far my favorite, as they are so easy to throw on alone or over a lipstick. I have been loving the shade Tirimisu because it gives the most adorable pink tint with just a hint of brown. This summer, I plan on throwing on some highlight, mascara, and this lip gloss daily as I run out the door.

MBA Cosmetics Sweet Kisses Lip Scrub $3.50

With all the traveling I have been doing, I have been slacking on my daily water intake, and my lips are paying the price. When I forget to hydrate my lips become flakey and dry, and lipstick looks terrible on them. Besides forcing myself to slow down, breath, and chug a liter, I turn to this delicious lip scrub to slough off the cracked layer of my lips. The little tub has lasted me a very long time, as I try not to over use it, and it was so crazy cheap. Lip scrubs are so simple (and can easily be made at home) so I really don’t believe in spending a lot on them. This lip scrub smells (and tastes) amazing, and leaves my lips feeling smooth and plump and ready for even the driest of liquid lipsticks.

Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow in My Dear Nude $10.00

“matte beige”

I have been making sure to check the Sephora Brand product section lately because they have been coming out with such great stuff, and when I was in an extra large store in Charlotte, I found myself mesmerized by all the new eye shadow colors. I am always hoarding transition shades, and this is my current favorite. It is such a balanced, true beige and it works with both warm and cool eye looks. This formula is very buttery and blends beautifully, and I want to try a few more from this line.

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Snap Dragon $5.00

“mid-tone sea foam green”

This color just screams summer to me, and I have been loving it as a pop of color on my lower lash line. These Colourpop shadows always last forever on my eyes, which is great in warmer weather. I have always been afraid of bright colors on my eyes (rarely do I stray from my Chocolate Bar Palette), but this shadow has really eased my fears. It manages to look bright and festive without looking gaudy or aging. I have a feeling I will hit pan on this before summer is over.

Wet N Wild Megaliner Liquid Eyeliner in Voltage Blue $2.99

I rarely wear liquid liner, mostly because I am too lazy/uncoordinated to apply it perfectly without messing up a few hundred times. I was not expecting to love this product as much as I do. I find the applicator very easy to use, and it dries very opaque and fast, so I don’t have to go over my original line a million times. And can I just say, how crazy bright is this for a drugstore blue? I continue to be impressed with Wet N Wild, and I think they have a lot of even better things coming.

Colourpop Creme Gel Liner Pencils $5.00

Honey Dude (creamy warm nude), Exit (true bright white), Cry Baby (cool toned pastel lavender), Prance (periwinkle blue), Zulu (pastel sea foam green), Get Paid (metallic rose gold), Over Board (warm metallic bronze), Workout (blackened forest green), Timber (cool toned slate grey)

I bought a bunch of these inexpensive liners from Colourpop a while ago because everyone was saying how crazy long they last on the lids and waterline. I had to see for myself if a liner that only costs 5 bucks could outlast my Marc Jacobs Highliner, and I can’t believe that it did. These do not budge, and taking them off requires a very potent remover. I got a few every day colors, a nude to bright up my eyes, and some more ‘out there’ colors to push myself. My favorites are Prance, Workout, and Over Board. I cannot wait to spend all summer in the brighter colors!

Let me know what you’ve been loving this month! Thanks for reading!!

Glowingly yours,
