Best Of 2016

Happy New Year! This year has brought so many new things into my life, this was the year I really got serious about this blog and make up in general. One of my first posts ever was my Best Of 2015, so I feel like this post is an anniversary of sorts.

When I went through my vanity and picked out products for this list, I really made sure to only grab things that I wore constantly this year. There are a few products that I may have found half way through the year, but I included them because of how much I wore them. Please comment your favorite products from the year, I love to know what you guys have been loving!

Make Up For Ever Face & Body Foundation $43.00

DSC_1728

I start this post of in mourning of my all time favorite foundation formula. The Face & Body from Make Up For Ever has been a favorite of mine to wear at night, especially when I know I might be photographed. This has sheer to light coverage and it gives my skin so much life and glow in a natural way. Unfortunately though, MUFE has discontinued this foundation! I try and save this now for special occasions, because the new foundation that they came out with to replace the Face & Body is just not as good on me. If any of you have a good alternative to this foundation, please let me know in the comments I am desperate!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation $39.00

dsc_1476

This product has been my go to day to day foundation because of how easily it applies. This blends perfectly with a brush, I don’t like to use a Beauty Blender with this though because it is very thin and watery. This foundation never clings to any dry patches on my skin, and it never looks oily or greasy. I hope Tarte never discontinues this foundation because I am already saving up to repurchase.

Becca X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette $52.00

(top to bottom: Rose Spritz, Amaretto, Pamplemousse, Prosecco Pop, Champagne Pop)

This face palette has come with me everywhere this year, it is my favorite travel buddy. I am so happy I got my hands on this when it first came out, because I use it so often. The highlights from Becca are amazing quality and the colors are so flattering on my skin. The blushes are very pigmented and come in two perfect colors: nude and pink. The luminous blush is a great blush topper for a little extra sparkle. On top of the quality product, the packaging itself is perfection. Here is a more in depth review I’ve done on this palette if you want to read a little more!

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer $28.00

DSC_0203

I truly think I have found my perfect concealer. I bought this hoping it would be good for concealer my under eyes on no make up days, but I was blown away by how much I loved it. This never creases on me, and it lasts through a hurricane. I already have backups because I don’t ever want to run out of this stuff. Here is a review I did on this that gives a little more information!

Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Flawless Finish Face Powder $45.00

This is one of those products that I got much later on in the year, but my love for it is immense. This has quickly become my favorite face powder on the market. Yes, it is pricey but it feels like silk and never looks caked on no matter how much I reapply. The packaging is perfect and sleek, and looks beautiful on my vanity. This doesn’t really stop me from getting oily, so I mostly use it underneath my eyes to set concealer. It is pretty light so it brightens up my whole face. I do wish CT would add more colors to this product line though, that’s the only downside. Here is a review I recently did on this product.

NARS Powder Blush in Madly $30.00

dsc_0459

I have so many beautiful blushes, but every time I open my drawer, I am tempted to pull out this one again. In the pan and swatched it looks so blah, but on the skin it transforms into the perfect nude glow. The NARS blushes are expensive, but if you are willing to spend the money, I seriously suggest giving this color a try. This goes with every single look I have ever done, no matter how subtle or glam.

Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer $14.99

DSC_0252

Everyone and their mama have been raving about this bronzer since it came out, and I have to say they aren’t wrong. This has a perfectly balanced undertone, and it applies so smooth. It is pigmented, but not so much so that I look orange or overdone, I can build this up to whatever level of bronze I want. And best of all, it smells like a beach vacation before you even open the compact. Here is a longer review I did of this bronzer if you want some more information.

Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops $42.00

dsc_0841

(left to right: Celestial, Sunkissed)

Another product that everyone has been going crazy for with good reason! I first bought the lightest highlight shade because I saw it swatched and it looks like straight up liquid metal. Highlights are my favorite product to collect because they are so fun and there are so many different options. After buying and falling in love with Celestial, I decided to try out the bronzer from the line. I had just received a sample of another liquid bronzer and realized how much I loved the way they looked on my skin, so I wanted to try this one out. I bought Sunkissed after waiting for it to come back into stock, and I am so happy I did. Both of these products blend perfectly and last all day on my skin. Here are reviews I have done of Celestial and Sunkissed if you want some more swatches and info!

Glossier Quartz Haloscope $22.00

Surprised to not have seen a Glossier product earlier on the list? Don’t worry there are a few more! This cream highlight is my absolute favorite to wear when I am not wearing any foundation. It is very subtle and glossy, and it lasts forever on my cheekbones. I also love to put this on my eyes for a glassy eye look! Here is my initial review for your reading pleasure.

MAC Fix+ $23.00

dsc_0181

I have used Fix + religiously since I began wearing foundation. If I have gone a little too overboard with my powder products, all I have to do is spray some of this and it fixes any little imperfection. This stuff is perfect at melting all the different layers of face make up together to make everything look less caked on and more natural. While this doesn’t really make my make up last longer, it makes it sit much prettier. There are other uses for this too. If I want an eyeshadow to apply very pigmented and opaque, all I do is put some on my brush and then spray it with this, and it applies like a cream shadow!

Urban Decay Primer Potion in Enigma $20.00

dsc_0300

I was never a huge fan of the original primer from UD, but I decided to take a chance on this one because it was tinted. I prefer a nude base over a clear one, I just like how it cancels out any redness or puffiness I may have. This stuff never catches on any dry patches, and it never creases on me. I really like the way my shadow sticks to this, and it lasts all day or night without fading.

LORAC Pro Matte Palette $28.00

DSC_0130

dsc_0752

(Top Row, left to right: Bare, Latte, Corduroy, Chocolate)

(Bottom Row, left to right: Linen, Pink Mauve, Burgundy, Jet Black)

I picked out two eye shadow palettes this year, one for base colors and one for fun colors. This little matte palette from LORAC has the perfect mix of cool and warm toned transition and crease shades. I always bring this with me when I travel, because I can make so many different looks with it. Here is an in depth review of each shade that I did.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette $42.00

(Top Row, left to right: Tempura, Golden Ochre, Vermeer, Buon Fresco, Antique Bronze)

(Middle Row, left to right: Love Letter, Cyprus Umber, Raw Sienna, Burnt Orange, Primavera)

(Bottom Row, left to right: Red Ochre, Venetian Red, Warm Taupe, Realgar)

Surprised? I am sure that almost every Beauty Blogger and Youtuber will have this baby in their favorites of the year. This amazing mix of warm reds, pinks and browns from Anastasia has probably been one of the biggest releases of the year. It still sells out when it gets restocked, the hype has not died down at all, and for good reason! The shadows in this palette are so soft and they blend like a dream. There is a great mix of matte, satin and metallic shades, making so many different looks possible. The only downside to this palette is that the shadows produce a lot of kick up because they are so buttery, and people seem to be hitting pan on their favorite colors fast. Here is a review of each individual shade!

Make Up Geek Foiled Eyeshadow in Mesmerized $10.00

I wanted to include the single shadow that I most often reached for in my Z Palette, and the choice was obvious. This purple taupe metallic shade from Make Up Geek has been my go to any time I want something deeper than an every day shade. My favorite part about this shadow is how versatile it is! Because I have so much make up I usually do my friends make up, and I have used this shadow on all of them. No matter their eye color, hair color or skin tone, this is always flattering and eye catching.xz

Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in ME554 Gunmetal $21.00

As you can see, I am very partial to these kinds of shades. This shadow from MUFE is my favorite to use in an intense smokey eye. This looks like straight up metal on the lid, and brings out the grey in my eyes. Here is a better review of this shadow!

Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel in 77 $15.00

dsc_0820

dsc_0824

dsc_0825

I know this picture looks like I have never used this, but I took these pictures back when I first got it because I was going to do a review on it but never got around to it. I am not a winged liner person, it just doesn’t compliment my eye shape. However, I do love smudging black liner on my lash line, especially when I am wearing false lashes. This gel liner from Inglot is my favorite, it is pitch black and doesn’t smudge all over the place. If I set this with a black shadow it stays perfect all day and night! And it really isn’t too expensive at all which is a plus.

Maybelline Full & Soft Mascara $7.99

dsc_0309

This is my absolute favorite mascara from the drugstore. This makes my short straight lashes look beautiful and fluffy. This doesn’t give much of a curl, but if I curl my lashes before applying this it hold one nicely. I love wearing this when I need to look awake and I don’t want to put much else on. I tried the waterproof version of this and it irritated my eyes for some reason, so now I just stick to the original formula!

MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara $18.00

This is my favorite mascara when I want really long, dramatic lashes. The wand on this perfectly separates my lashes and gives them length and volume without any clumps. This dries fast so I don’t get any smudging, and it doesn’t flake off throughout the day. The wand also makes this great for using on my lower lashes.

Glossier Boy Brow $16.00

DSC_0657

I never leave the house without something on my brows, and gel brow mascaras have become my best friend. This one from Glossier is the perfect cool toned brown, and the brush is tiny so I never have to remove any smudges or clumps. This is the perfect product for throwing on right as I walk out the door, and it lasts all day.

Glossier Balm Dot Com $12.00

dsc_0314

Another Glossier product, I know. But I couldn’t make a favorites post without including these flavored balms! I have every Balm Dot Com from Glossier, and they are all over my room and in every purse. These moisturize my lips without leaving them greasy, and it lasts a long time. Some of the flavors are tinted, which is perfect when I want a little wash of color but don’t feel like reapplying a lipstick all day. My favorite flavor is Coconut because it smells exactly like toasted coconut, not the fake coconut smell that a lot of things have.

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lips $6.00

dsc_1000

dsc_1007

(top to bottom: Magic Wand, Calypso, Echo Park, Alyssa, Dopey, November)

While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Ultra Matte Lips from Colourpop, I am obsessed with the newer Ultra Satin Lip formula! These apply like a liquid lipstick but never fully dry down. I have a bunch of pinks and nudes because that’s mostly what I wear. These are super inexpensive and there is quite a large color selection so anyone can find their perfect shade.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipsticks $26.00

dsc_0928

dsc_0933

(top to bottom: Honeycomb, Rhubarb)

I was so sure that there was never going to be another lipstick that impressed me as much as the NARS Audacious ones did, but these surprised me. The formula of these is so creamy and comfortable, but they don’t slip and slide all over the place. There are a lot of different shades to choose from, so people of all skin tones and styles can enjoy them. Of the two I have, Honeycomb is probably my favorite. It reminds me a lot of MAC’s Velvet Teddy, but the formula is ten times better. I love pretty much anything from Bite Beauty because it is all very natural.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipgloss in Kristen $16.00

dsc_0581dsc_0458

I would have included all of the ABH glosses because they are my favorite formula, but this shade is the one that I am almost running out of because I wear it so often. This is such an easy color to throw on when you have no idea what lip to wear. It goes with everything, it looks polished and mature but fresh at the same time. Something about this color too leaves behind a bit of a stain on my lips, so when it begins to fade I don’t have to immediately reapply..

Buxom Full On Lip Cream in Dolly $20.00

dsc_0950

dsc_0942

This is another lip gloss that is perfect for every day wear. This gives me just a hint of color and great shine, so it looks more natural. The Buxom glosses are really long wearing on me (well, as long wearing as a gloss can be) and they aren’t too crazy expensive. This is my favorite gloss to keep in my purse or backpack when I want to add just a little color to my face.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser $18.00

dsc_0279

dsc_0281

This cleanser has changed the way I remove make up. I was always someone who just swiped my face with a make up wipe before bed and that was that. Now I am very sure to get every last drop of product off my skin to keep my face clear. Now I use my Bioderma to remove msot make up, but I was never able to get every last bit off, until I started washing my face with this. This stuff is very gentle and moisturizing, and I can use it on my eyes as well without it stinging the crap out of them. The jelly consistency doesn’t dry out my skin like a lot of cleansers tend to do. If you have very sensitive skin, I highly suggest giving this stuff a try!

Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub $28.00

dsc_0318

dsc_0321

About twice a week I like to exfoliate my face to really keep it glowy and fresh. This scrub is the best thing I have found when it comes to physical exfoliants. This stuff really gets the job done without scratching my face or causing any tears or irritation. The smell is amazing and it doesn’t leave a gross film on my face like some scrubs can do.

Glossier Super Serums $65.00

dsc_1227(left to right: super bounce, super glow, super pure)

This is the last Glossier item I promise! These three serums cover all the bases for me. The Super Bounce keeps me hydrated, the Super Glow helps keep my skin from scarring, and the Super Pure really detoxifies everything when my skin is acting up. These are very inexpensive for face serums, so I don’t have to worry about making them last forever. They are also available individually so if one really speaks to you, you don’t have to buy all three. I have a huge post on all of these so you can check that out here!

Bath & Body Works Fragrance Mist in Dark Kiss $14.00

dsc_0287

dsc_0293

Top Notes: Black Raspberry, Burgundy Rose

Mid Notes: Bergamot Incense, Plum Musk Amber, Geranium, Peony

Dry Notes: Dark Vanilla Bean, Labdanum, Vetiver, Sensual Balsam

I had to include this perfume spray because I use it every day. I don’t wear this as a perfume on its own, but I do spray this all over my room constantly! I also love to spray this all over my clothes in my closet, I really cannot get enough of this scent. I included the notes above to give you a bit of and idea of the scent, but it is next to impossible to properly describe it in writing. I don’t think this is available in the store anymore, but you can still purchase it online!

Thanks for sticking with me through all that! I hope you all have an amazing year!

Let me know your favorite products from the year, and why you love them so much!

Glowingly yours,

Jess
