e.l.f Cosmetics Haul

So every now and then, elf will have a %50 off sale on their website, and this past time I decided to take advantage. I have always loved elf products because of how affordable they are, and most of the time the quality is really nice. When I was on the website, I really tried to focus on their face products, because I already have and love a lot of their eye products. I’m gonna give a short review of each product below, and if I would have purchased them at full price.

Smudge Pot Cream Eyeshadow in Cruisin Chic $3.00

dsc_1235

Lately I have been really into cream shadows. They are so easy to just swipe on and run out the door. I wanted to try one of the smudge pots and see how they compare to things like the Maybelline Color Tattoos and the MAC Paint Pots. I picked this shade because I love putting anything taupe/bronzey on my lids, especially for day to day. This gives a lovely shimmer to the lid without looking too thick or caked on. This lasted all day on my lids without creasing.

Would I buy this at full price?

Yes, but I have heard that some of the colors are duds, so I would really have to swatch it in person and see how it applies.

Long-Lasting Lustrous Eyeshadow in Soiree $3.00

dsc_1225

This seemed like a hybrid of a loose glitter, a cream shadow and a powder. The consistency is so hard to explain properly. While the color itself is really nice, I am kind of turned off by all of the glitter in it. It feels and applies a little chunky and I end up with specks of glitter in my eyeballs.

Would I buy this at full price?

Probably not because of all the glitter. If the color lasted longer on my lids I would repurchase it, but an hour or so in all that’s left of this product is a bunch of glitter under my eyes.

Eyeliner Brush $1.00

dsc_1056

I have quite a few elf eye brushes, and I love them all! I picked this one up for applying shadow underneath my eyes. I usually use a pencil brush, but something like this gives me a lot more precision. The bristles are soft enough not to irritate my eyes, but stiff enough to hold their shape and really pack on shadow.

Would I buy this at full price?

Yes, because even at full price it is only 2 bucks!

Lip Exfoliator in Sweet Cherry $3.00

I have the original lip exfoliator, and when I saw that they released flavored versions, I wanted to try one out. I love using these before I apply lipsticks to get rid of any flakes or dry skin. I find my lipstick applies much smoother and more opaque after using this.

Would I buy this at full price?

Yes, because it is a super cheap alternative to fancy lip scrubs and exfoliators.

Illuminating Palette $6.00

Elf is known for their four pan palettes like this, and I bought a bunch. I was drawn to this palette because I am always looking for a cheap drugstore highlighter! These are very subtle, but they can be built up. They do have some fine glitter, but it isn’t noticeable or chunky looking.

Would I buy this at full price?

Probably not only because I have so many highlighters already that I reach for before this palette.

Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder in St. Lucia $4.00

I picked this up thinking it would be a cheap dupe for the NARS Laguna/Orgasm duo. While I love the bronzer shade in this palette, the blush is a glittery mess. The pan wasn’t glued in properly so it falls out every time I open it, which gets glitter everywhere. Its a shame too because it looks lovely swatched, but on my skin all I can see is big chunks of glitter all over my face.

Would I buy this at full price?

No, the nice bronzer isn’t worth the crappy blush.

Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder in Fiji $4.00

While the first blush/contour duo was a bust, this is one of my new favorite products! Both the blush and the bronzer are matte and they work really well together. The blush is very pigmented so I do need to use a light hand, but it lasts all day on me. The bronzer is pretty warm, so I don’t use it for contouring, but it warms my face up really naturally.

Would I buy this at full price?

Absolutely!

Matte Blush Duo in Soft & Subtle $4.00

I bought this after seeing Kathleen Lights rave about it in one of her monthly favorites videos. I was really thinking I would only use the darker shade for blush, but I have actually found the perfect use for the lighter nude shade. I have been using that shade to blur the line between my blush, bronzer and highlight! It gives color to my face without looking caked on, so it’s perfect for blurring.

Would I buy this at full price?

Yes, the powders blend nicely and I get good use out of both the shades in the compact.

Matte Blush Duo in Rosy Flush $4.00

I added this to my cart when I thought that the previous blush duo would be too light to show up on my skin at all. I usually stay away from red/orange blushes, but something about this one really works for me. I need to use a light hand, but this stays put all day. I like to use the light orange/beige shade to blur the darker blush out and make it less intense.

Would I buy this at full price?

Yes, the formula is great and the colors are very flattering.

Translucent Mattifying Powder $3.00

I am always looking for a new mattifying powder. I really only use these kinds of products on my forehead, so just keep in mind I have no idea how this would sit on the rest of my face. The powder is very finely milled so it doesn’t look caked on or odd. My only complaint is that this isn’t truly translucent to me, it has a slight tint. That doesn’t bother me so much, but anyone with skin tones darker than me might get really bad flashback or a white caste.

Would I buy this at full price?

Probably not, only because I have other mattifying powders that work better for my skin and last longer.

All Over Color Stick in Spotlight $1.00

I wanted to pick this up to compare to some of the other stick highlighters I own. I really love the color of this, but the consistency is just a little too waxy and slippy for me. I either pack it on and it looks weird, or I blend it out and it disappears. I much prefer my Glossier Haloscope to this.

Would I buy this at full price?

No, because I just don’t reach for this, but it is only 2 bucks full price, so I don’t regret buying it at all.

Cream Blush Palette in Soft $6.00

Now that winter is in full swing, my skin is drier than ever, so I have been reaching for creams over powders a lot. I wasn’t a huge fan of the powder blush palette, but I really love these creams! They apply smooth and never patchy, and they last forever. I really like to mix a lot of them to create a totally different color every time I use it!

Would I buy this at full price?

Yes, probably one of my favorite cream formulas from the drugstore.

Contouring Blush & Bronzing Cream in St. Lucia $3.00

This is probably my favorite item from the entire haul, which really surprised me. I have no complaints about this product at all! The blush is a perfect peachy pink that adds nice color to my face while still looking natural. The bronzer is warm enough to give me a little tan, but neutral enough not to look orange.

Would I buy this at full price?

Yes, and I suggest you do the same!

Bronzer Palette in Bronzed Beauty $6.00

While in the pans these shades look really nice, I was kind of disappointed in how they swatched. As you can see from the picture, they look pretty patchy. They actually don’t look too bad on the skin, they just aren’t all that pigmented. But it’s perfect for mixing to find the perfect undertone and shade to suit yourself.

Would I buy this at full price?

No, because I have a lot more bronzers that I prefer.

Foundation Palette in Medium/Dark $6.00

I picked up this foundation palette to use as a contouring palette! I’ve been trying to use cream contour a little more lately since it stays so much longer on my skin. While the formula of these are really nice, the colors are pretty warm, which can sometimes make my contour look off.

Would I buy this at full price?

No, because the undertones just aren’t right for me.

Foundation Palette in Fair/Light $6.00

This is the same foundation palette, but in the lightest shade. If I’m being totally honest, I have barely touched this because I haven’t been wearing a lot of foundation over vacation. The consistency is very smooth and opaque though!

Would I buy this at full price?

I don’t want to say until I have really tested it out.

Let me know your favorite elf products!

Glowingly yours,

Jess
