The Color Series: Red

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I thought today would be the perfect day to introduce a new series of posts I have been working on: the color series! When it comes to make up, neutral colors are everywhere. As much as I love a good nude lipstick, I have always been infatuated with the bright colors that are out there. This post includes products that are truly a bright, beautiful red. While red may not seem like such a crazy color, it was pretty difficult to find red anything that wasn’t a lip product. I don’t own most of these products, so I can’t really give a review on them, so if you have any of these comment your thoughts! I will however give some quick thoughts on them!

NARS Blush in Exhibit A $30.00

While I don’t have this color, I do own a few NARS Powder Blushes, and I can speak to how great the quality is. This blush is not for the faint of heart or the pale skinned. This color would be perfect for a very deep skin tone, but be sure to use a light hand!

Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in M846 Morello Cherry $21.00

The formula of these matte MUFE shadows are very creamy and opaque, and I doubt that this shade would be any different. If you are a fan of warm smokey eyes, this is the color for you!

Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Raw Power $21.00

While a matte red shadow is perfect for the crease and outer corners, this shimmery red from KVD is perfect for all over the lid. These shadows from KVD are so pigmented and easy to work with.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Fiery $24.00

I have a few of these liquid lips from Stila, and they are incredible. They have a moussey consistency making them less drying and more comfortable on the lips. They really do last all day without fading or cracking at all. The shade Fiery is a bright blue based red with a hint of orange in it, and people rave about it being their perfect red lip!

MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo $17.00

Now here is a product I actually have and can review! This is one of the most iconic shades from MAC, and for good reason. Ruby Woo is a Retro Matte formula, and it is very dry and as matte as it gets without being a liquid lip. While the dryness makes it difficult to work with, it makes the color last forever on my lips. This is my go to red, because it is just so perfectly balanced so it never makes my teeth look yellow.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss in Neon Apple $16.00

I’m not a huge fan of glossy red lips, but if it’s done well it can look really glamorous. These glosses from ABH are very thick and opaque, so if you are only looking for a wash of color, look elsewhere!

Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liner in It’s Cherry $12.00

If you’re gonna wear red lipstick, you need a red lip liner to keep it all in place. These gel liners from Sephora are affordable and aren’t wooden so they never tug or skip on the lips.

OPI Nail Lacquer in Big Apple Red $10.00

This has been my favorite red polish since high school. It is the perfect bright poppy red. The OPI formula lasts weeks on my nails with no chips, and the wand makes application very easy.

BVLGARI Omnia Coral Perfume $66.00

Bergamot, Goji Berries, Hibiscus Flower, Water Lily, Pomegranate, Cedarwood.

While it’s hard for a perfume to actually be red, the notes in this read as ‘red’ to me. Pomegranate and goji berries make this a very warm, fruity scent.

Let me know your favorite red products!

Glowingly yours,

Jess
