Disappointing Products March 2017

I finally gathered enough products to make a full post! I really don’t like being negative about a product, but I also want to be honest and maybe help someone decide on whether or not to buy something. I’ll try to go into as much as detail as possible as to why I found these products so disappointing. If these are products that work for you, let me know why in the comments please! Let’s get started!

Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation $10.99

I loved this foundation for the first few weeks of using it. It was a very liquid yet high coverage foundation that dries to a satin matte finish. The reason I am including this product in this post is because after a few weeks, the foundation began oxidizing and turning extremely orange on my skin after only about an hour of wear. It also began to cling onto any small dry patches on my face. I thought maybe I had a bad bottle so I bought another, but the same thing happened again. I don’t think you can get this foundation anymore, but I could be wrong!

Physician’s Formula Argan Wear Glow Oil $14.99

I picked this up thinking it would be a great drugstore alternative to the Josie Maran Argan Oil. I used this on my face, and instead of leaving my skin hydrated and smooth, it left me oily and with a few random pimples. Maybe this would be better used as a mixer for something like a cream contour or concealer.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil $42.00

I believe I got this in an old Ipsy bag or Birchbox. While I love a good face oil when it comes to skincare, I am not so crazy about using them as primers. This made me so oily and even after removing my make up my pores feel congested. I tried this under a few different foundations, and every time it made the foundation break up and fade off after an hour or so. If you have extremely dry skin, this might actually be perfect for you!

Maybelline Expert Wear Eye Pencil $3.99

I bought this after reading a make up artist’s book, and he was always saying that these were perfect. He would heat them up and smudge them on the lash line. They are very cheap, so I thought I would try them out. If you don’t heat them up, it is next to impossible to get any pigment or color payoff. Heated up, I just ended up with a clump of brown eye liner on my lid and burns on my fingers.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Nude $21.00

I wanted so badly to love this lipstick, but it just never worked for me. When I first got it, it clung to every dry spot on my lips and only lasted 20 minutes at most. The color is so beautiful, which makes me so sad that it never works. After having this for a few months, the product begins to separate, making it completely unusable. I am pretty sure that Too Faced has reformulated these because the newer shades seem to be really great.

NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks $6.99

I wanted so badly to love these liquid lipsticks from NYX, but I could just never get them to work on me. Both shades applied patchy and clumpy, I could never get an opaque, even coverage. Once I did get them on my lips, they dried and cracked off in only an hour. NYX recently released a lot of new colors and people really seem to love them, so maybe they tweaked the formula a bit.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams $5.99

San Paulo

I just have to face the fact that liquid lipsticks from NYX will never agree with me. These Soft Matte Lip Creams just don’t stay on my lips, no matter how I apply them. They always pill away after a few minutes, and I end up having to constantly reapply, which just makes the pilling worse. They apply patchy most of the time, and I find it so hard to get a clean line. I have a nude shade that I like a lot more than these two, but I still rarely reach for it.

Nivea Post Shave Balm for Sensitive Skin $6.95

I bought this, like everyone else, after Nikkie Tutorials made a video about using this as a primer. Every Youtuber bought and used this and talked non stop about how long it made their make up last. I couldn’t wait to try it because of how cheap it was and how much product you got. I used this for about two weeks trying to make it work, but it just irritated the crap out of my face. My skin became really textured and hard to work with, and I have no doubt it was this product. I did notice that my make up lasted a good long time, but it wasn’t worth the intense smell and skin irritation.

Doucce Maxlash Volume Mascara $22.00

I got this fancy mascara in a Boxycharm a few months back, and couldn’t wait to try it out. I am always down to try a new mascara, but this one really let me down. The formula was so dry it irritated my eyes and flaked off all over my face. It made my lashes clumpy and gave me no volume at all. It had a wand very similarly shaped to the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, and those kinds of wands really never work for me.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Pot in Creamy Beige $6.99

The Color Tattoos are a drugstore staple for so many, which makes this all the more disappointing to me. I have a few of these, and I am a big fan of the shimmery ones, and I love using the matte black one as a base for intense eye looks. Unfortunately, this shade just creased like crazy on my lids. It was so thick no matter how lightly I applied it, and eye shadow sat oddly on top of it.

Let me know any products that have left you underwhelmed lately!

Glowingly yours,
