An Anti-Haul For Spring Sales

I love buying make up, if that wasn’t obvious by now. It’s a fun hobby, but it is expensive. Make up is always changing, brands are constantly releasing new lines and products, it can be hard to keep up. I try not to fall into the hype of certain releases, but it can be hard to stay rational in a sea of stunning products. I thought I would make this post about some of the more recent popular items, and what kept me from spending all my money on them!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit $80.00

Why I want it

I will always add this to my online cart. I am a sucker for marbling, so the packaging is what really gets me. I have a few Hourglass face powders, and they really are stunning.

Why I don’t buy it

While the powders are beautiful, they are extremely subtle. I am not going to pay 80 bucks for something that makes such a small difference on my face. If the pans were the same size as the single powders, maybe I would consider this worth the money. But alas, I am always jarred when I see it in person on the shelf and remember just how small this palette is.

Too Faced Sweathearts Bronzer in Sweat Tea $30.00

Why I want it

I love the dual sides, one more matte, one shimmery. I tend to mix matte and shimmery bronzers, it gives my face some extra dimension. Also, I know it may seem silly, but I adore the name, Sweat Tea!

Why I don’t buy it

I used to have one of the blushes in this packaging, and it just wasn’t practical. I think the heart and the coloring here are so cute, but I know I will pass it over for something easier to pull out and put back.

Tarte Make Believe In Yourself: Spellbound Glow Rainbow Highlighter $30.00

Why I want it

The rainbow highlighter craze was always in the corner of my mind. I love highlights, and the swatches of the rainbow powders looked so beautiful.

Why I don’t buy it

I can love the rainbow pattern all I want, but I will just never wear it. While I love mixing different highlight shades, the rainbow can end up looking like a shimmery bruise. Especially when it has blue and purple pigments in it.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit $40.00

Screen Shot 2017-04-14 at 12.36.47 PM

Why I want it

I have always wanted to try one of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kits, and this is just the most recent one to catch my eye. The colors are all beautiful and different enough to really expand my collection with just one palette. The packaging is sleek and girly in the best way, and I always love supporting beauty gurus.

Why I don’t buy it

Besides the fact that this is sold out, I passed on it during the initial 2AM release (when I bought my Cover FX drops in Halo) because I couldn’t justify the money when I know I would only wear two or three shades often enough. While I love the idea of including shades for many different skin tones, it makes it easier for me to skip over products that I can’t utilize fully.

Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist $48.00

Screen Shot 2017-04-14 at 12.37.32 PM

Why I want it

Everyone raves about this expensive little bottle, and I have been dying to know why. Skin mists have gotten very popular over the past few years, and I love that they can be used in both make up and skin care. This mist is meant to give glow and hydration to your face, both before and after applying make up. The entire Tatcha brand is very luxurious, and I would kill to try any of their products out just once.

Why I don’t buy it

I just can’t spend 50 bucks on a face spray, especially a luminous one. I love hydrating glow, but I have to remember that I have oily skin, and there’s a good chance this mist will make me look like an oil slick.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Eye Shadow Palette $49.00

Screen Shot 2017-04-14 at 12.38.16 PM

Why I want it

The Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette is one of my all time favorite eye shadow palettes, so any time Too Faced releases a new palette in the same style, I always gravitate towards it. This also smells so amazing, like Runts candy!

Why I don’t buy it

The colors just seem a bit underwhelming to me. If there were more peaches and and warm shades like that, I would be more interested.

Laura Mercier Eye Art Artist’s Palette $55.00

Screen Shot 2017-04-14 at 12.38.55 PM

Why I want it

People went insane for the original Artist Palette back in 2013, mostly for the single shade African Violet. While that shade is beautiful, I also love the entire palette as a whole. The purple row calls out to me every time I see this, and it is nearly impossible for me not to stop and stare at it.

Why I don’t buy it

I can’t buy a palette for one or two shades, especially at this price. Since the 2013 craze, LM has actually released the color African Violet in a single, so I would probably buy that before buying this whole palette.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Palette $48.00

Screen Shot 2017-04-14 at 12.39.28 PM

Why I want it

I love lip colors, and I am always mixing shades to create my perfect color. This palette is one of the only lip palettes that has ever interested me. I think it has a lot to do with the variety of colors, and the bottom row makes it so rounded out. You can mix whatever lip shade you want with this, making it perfect for editorial and stage work.

Why I don’t buy it

I am always eating, and that means I am always reapplying my lip products. I can’t see myself lugging this palette around to reapply my perfect color every few hours. If I was a make up artist, I would have bought this a long time ago, but I am just a normal girl with a make up obsession and no need for a professional lip mix palette.

Marc Jacobs The Bronze Bronzer Brush $78.00

Screen Shot 2017-04-14 at 12.40.01 PM

Why I want it

It is huge, fluffy, luxurious, and I think I need it.

Why I don’t buy it

No one needs an $80 powder brush. No one.

Let me know how you keep yourself from buying everything new and shiny on the Sephora shelves!

Glowingly yours,

Jess

Yeah that’s what this post is all about! I always want to buy everything, but have to remind myself to think hard before spending more than $20 on something I don’t really need.
