A Face Mask For Everyone

Few things are more relaxing (to me at least) than a face mask. There are so many different kinds for different things, so choosing one that’s right for you can be a little overwhelming. I wanted to make this post to try and make things a little bit easier. I have included some ingredients you want to look for, and some high end and affordable options. Let’s get started!

For Dull Skin

If you have dull, congested skin, you want to look for anything that has brightening qualities. The best ingredients for that are things like Vitamin C, lactic acid and glycolic acid. Exfoliation is also key to rejuvenating skin and buffing away dead flakes for an overall brighter complexion.

For Oily Skin

I have very oily skin, so once a week I love to use a purifying mask to soak everything up. The two best things for doing that are any kind of clay and charcoal. Both act like sponges to draw out any oils or dirt in your pores. These can be drying and irritating on the skin, so make sure to moisturize afterwards and never leave them on for too long.

For Parched Skin

There are a million masks on the market for dry skin, but you need to be careful which ingredients you use. There are some things that only provide momentary hydration, so choose things with hyaluronic acid, rose, or honey. All of these bring lasting hydration and fullness to the skin.

For Redness

I don’t suffer from redness, but my mom does, so I am very familiar with these products. Redness and inflammation can be soothed with things like cucumber, oatmeal, rosewater, and chamomile. Put these masks in the fridge for an hour before applying to bump up the cooling effect.

For Wrinkles

Wrinkle prevention is always better than wrinkle treatment, and these masks can help with both. Anything with peptides, collagen, or retinol will help firm up the skin, and help prevent future wrinkles from forming.

For Discoloration

I have dark spots from old acne scars and such, so every month or so I like to do a mask that targets discoloration. While exfoliation can also help with dark spots, the best things to use are products with glycolic or lactic acid, or any other kind of chemical exfoliant.

For Firmness

Tightening and firming masks are perfect for short term plumpness. I like to use them before a night out, because they give a more even canvas for me to apply make up to. Things like bee venom, hyaluronic acid and collagen are perfect for a short term face lift.

For Acne

I get very bad cystic acne once a month, but every now and then I have a run of the mill breakout. When that happens, I like to use a mask or spot treatment with charcoal, sulfur, tea tree oil or salicylic acid to draw out and clear up any blemishes.
