I love to do posts like these when the seasons change, because the trends are all changing as well! Here are a few things that I think will be perfect for these upcoming summer months!
The Skin Tint
Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar Skin Tint $39.00
Much lighter than foundation or ABC creams, skin tints offer moisture and a wash of color to even out the face without feeling or looking heavy. Try to find one with SPF of at least 30 in it, that way you can be protected in the summer sunshine! Get a shade darker than your skin tone for an instant bronze glow.
The Powder Sunscreen
Supergoop! Invincible Setting Powder SPF 45 $30.00
SPF is a must have, and I am always looking for an upgrade when it comes to my face protection. Because I have such oily skin, regular sunscreens can make me look greasy and awful, so when I saw that a few different companies were making powder sunscreens I knew I would fall in love. Dust this powder on after finishing your make up to make it last and protect your skin all day long.
The Iridescent Blush
MAC Extra Dimension Blush in Just A Pinch $28.00
While the holographic highlighter trend is currently in full force, the slightly more subtle blush is right behind it. MAC just recently released these blushes that each have a shining shift to them, making them fall somewhere between a shimmer blush and a subtle highlight. Products like this are perfect for the summer because they cover all the bases, adding color and glow to the cheeks without having to pack on the powder.
The Liquid Bronzer
Bare Minerals BareSkin Sheer Sun Serum Bronzer $28.00
While cream bronzers are perfect for the winter (dry skin), liquid bronzers are made for the summer time! Formula’s like this blend easily into the skin and last all day. Add just a drop to the outer edges of the face and cheeks to create a natural looking tan. Make sure to find a product without glitter in it, that can look overdone and odd on the face, especially if you are going for a minimal look.
The Multi-Purpose Palette
Tom Ford Eye & Cheek Palette in Warm $155.00
My favorite part about summer is random, overnight trips to the beach or the mountains, so a multi-use palette like this is perfect for short term traveling. All I need is a bit of color for my cheeks and eyes, and I am ready to create any look the adventure calls for! You can also create your own travel palette using powder pans and empty magnetic palettes like a Z Palette!
The Shadow Stick
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Color in Rose Gold $29.00
Cream shadow is great for quick, easy eye looks for day and night. Buy a color like this that you can wear with other shades or on its own. I like smudging these along the lash line with some darker liner to create a simple yet classic eye look. Lighter shades can also be used as an on the go highlight as well!
The Lash Primer
Clinique Lash Building Primer $16.50
When I want minimal make up, I rely heavily on my lashes to pull everything together. In the summer, I love big, full lashes and little else, so a lash primer is my secret weapon. I have very short, straight lashes, so a primer gives me the volume I need! That way I don’t need a million layers of clumpy mascara to give me big healthy looking lashes. When you use a lash primer, make sure to wait a few seconds to let it dry the tiniest bit before adding the mascara.
The Lip Oil
Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in Red Berry $26.00
Sun burnt, chapped lips are a usually unavoidable summer pain, so keep a lip oil handy in your purse. While chapsticks keep moisture from leaving, oils penetrate and hydrate the dry cracked skin in seconds. Pick one like this one from Clarins that has a slight tint, so you can wear it out day or night!
The Orange Lip
Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera $28.00
When a slight wash of color won’t cut it, go for a bright red orange shade to bring out that tan! I have always loved matte, orange reds, especially in warmer weather. They look perfect with bronzey skin, big lashes and a very simple eye. While gloss is great for day to day, choose a matte formula for nights out. It will last longer between touch ups!
The Dewy Spray
Cover FX Illuminating Setting Spray $31.00
Glowing, hydrated skin is in, and the summer is the perfect time to show it off. If after applying your make up your skin looks a bit flat, spray it with an illuminating spray like this one from Cover FX, and you won’t even need a highlight! Even oily girls like me can get away with a glow spray in the summer heat!
The Dry Shampoo
My hair can get pretty dry in the sun, so a foam based product like this is perfect for adding volume without stripping any natural oils from my scalp. After a day on the beach, smooth some of this through your hair and move right into night time activities without skipping a beat!
The Blue Polish
NARS Nail Polish in Ikiru $20.00
Blue nail polish has always been a favorite of mine. It is so stark and eye catching but never gawdy. A slightly darker than sky blue shade like this one from NARS is perfect for tan skin and gold jewelry.
Let me know what your summer favorites are!
Glowingly yours,
Jess
