Best of 2017: Make Up

With the new year just starting, I wanted to take a look back at all the products I loved the most throughout 2017. This year I got more into make up and skin care than ever before, so I am splitting these posts up into three different ones. Don’t get me wrong though, this post is still a long one so settle in and let’s just get right into it! If I have a more in depth review already posted of a product, I will link to it so I don’t have to drone on and on!

Face

theordinaryhighadherencesiliconeprimer

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer $4.90

I am always looking for the perfect primer that can handle all my skin needs, and this is the closest I have come to perfection. This silicone based primer is lightweight but sturdy, and my make up lasts noticeably longer. It fills in my pores and foundation applies so smoothly on top, and it does a pretty good job of keeping the shine at bay.

touchinsolnoporeblemprimer

Touch in Sol No Poreblem Primer $18.00

This primer has been my go-to when I really want that airbrushed, flawless look. My pores completely disappear when I pat this on, but it never clogs my skin or feels too heavy. While it isn’t as long lasting as the primer from The Ordinary, this does a slightly better job of filling in my pores and fine lines.

toofacedpeachperrfectcomfortmattefoundation

Too Faced Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation $36.00

For work days, I need a foundation that will keep me matte and shine free for at least 6 hours, and this has been my favorite since it released. This looks very natural on my skin, and has a very subtle satin matte finish. It keeps me matte all day without looking dry or flat, and it blends so easily with a brush or sponge.

no7liftandluminatefoundation

No7 Lift & Luminate Foundation $15.99

This was hands down my most used foundation of 2017, and I recommend it to everyone! The undertone matches me perfectly, not too pink or yellow, and it never oxidizes. It has a luminous satin finish that makes my skin look refreshed and youthful. I can get a little shiny in this, so I just have to be sure to always set it with powder.

narssoftmattecompleteconcealer

narssoftmattecompleteconcealer1

NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer $30.00

I use this concealer pretty much daily and I still have hardly made a dent in the pot. This cream concealer is so pigmented I only need the tiniest dot to cover any blemish or redness I may be having. This is one of the only products I have tried that stays all day on even the worst breakout. I don’t really use this under my eyes much though because it is on the thicker side and can dry my under eyes out.

tarteshapetapeconcealer

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer $27.00

I have the worst under eye bags, so my concealer collection is always growing. People went crazy for this concealer when it was released, and as soon as I got my hands on it I could see why. This is the best full coverage concealer for under the eyes that I have ever used. I only need the tiniest amount to cover my entire under eye, so I never feel like I am piling on the product. Rumor has it Tarte is about to release a Shape Tape Foundation, and I can’t wait to try it!

katvondlockitpowdercompact

katvondlockitpowderfoundation

Kat Von D Lock-It Blotting Powder $29.00

An oily girl like me needs a good mattifying powder, and this has been my obsession since it came out. This powder not only blocks my shine, it can be layered on throughout the day to keep the oil at bay. It also has a slight blurring effect, so it hides my pores and fine lines perfectly. I also love the packaging!

glossierwowdersettingpowder

glossierwowdersettingpowder1

Glossier Wowder Setting Powder $22.00

Another amazing powder for both oily and dry skin is the Wowder from Glossier. You know I love all things Glossier, but this powder has been on a few favorites lists already so it isn’t just us groupies! Everything from the clean, mess free packaging to the blurring, long lasting finish makes this my perfect powder.

glossiercloudpaints

glossiercloudpaintsswatch

Glossier Cloud Paints in Haze, Dusk, Beam and Puff $18.00

This year I have fallen in love with cream blushes, and these Cloud Paints are to thank! When my skin is feeling dry or dull, these really give me some life. I love that I can mix to get my perfect blush shade for whatever look I am feeling that day. They blend beautifully and never look patchy, and they last all day on my skin.

narsliquidblushes

narsliquidblushesorgasmlusterswatch

NARS Liquid Blushes in Orgasm and Luster $30.00

While the Glossier Cloud Paints are the perfect matte cream blush, these new liquid blushes from NARS are my go-to shimmer blushes! These have a very watery consistency, so they blend so smoothly. Cream blushes can come with a bit of a learning curve, but once you’ve mastered it you will be addicted too I promise! Here is a post I wrote about how I apply my cream and liquid blushes.

fentybeautykillawatthighlightlightningdustfirecrystal1

fenty_beauty_swatches_lightningdust_firecrystal

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal $34.00

One of the most notable brands to hit the market this year was Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty. I picked up this duo pan highlighter and fell instantly in love with both shades. One side is a subtle sheen while the other is a much more intense shimmer, and combined they are so stunning. Neither shade grabs on to any texture on my cheeks, and it lasts all day with minimal fading.

Pixi Beauty Glow-y Powder in Santorini Sunset $16.00

I had searched everywhere for this highlight after seeing so many amazing reviews, and when I finally found it I was over the moon! This is my ideal pale gold highlight, and I have been wearing it to work almost daily. It can be subtle or built up to a blinding highlight that doesn’t looked piled on. I also can’t help but love the simple Pixi packaging.

marcjacobsbeautycoconutbronzerswatch

Marc Jacobs Beauty O!Mega Coconut Bronzer in Tan-Tastic! $49.00

I wasn’t going to include this limited edition product, but I just heard they are bringing it back! This is my favorite daily bronzer, it has the perfect neutral undertone so I can use it for both bronzing and contouring my face. It lasts forever on me and blends so smoothly into the skin. The price may seem extreme, but the pan is huge and it smells amazing!

janecosmeticsinspirebronzerswatch

Jane Cosmetics Inspire Bronzing Powder $15.00

I rarely reach for a very shimmery bronzer, but when I do I grab this little beauty from Jane Cosmetics! It has a warm undertone so I really only use it on the tops of my cheek bones for a really subtle sunkissed look. This also doubles as a really stunning eyeshadow.

milanimakeitlastsettingspray

Milani Make It Last Setting Spray $10.00

As you can seen from this nearly empty bottle, I have been using this setting spray a whole lot! This is by far the best drugstore setting spray I have ever tried, and I always make sure I have a back up handy. I use this on my work days and it keeps my make up fresh and vibrant all day long.

coverfxmattifyingsettingspray

Cover FX Mattifying Setting Spray $31.00

While I usually like a setting spray that keeps my makeup on all day, I also love a spray that can keep my shininess at bay. Just a tiny bit of this stuff keeps me matte and oil free for hours without drying out my skin. I love combining this with the Milani spray for the perfect long lasting and mattifying effect!

Eyes

meltcosmeticsruststack

meltcosmeticsruststackswatch

Melt Cosmetics Rust Stack $58.00

I have been living in this warm brown shadow stack, there are so many options with such simple colors. I love the shadow stacks from Melt, but this is the one that I really recommend to everyone, even though it is so expensive. I got it on sale, but I would repurchase it at full price without a doubt. If you love matte browns, you need these five shades in your life. I love to use the deep brown as a smudged out eyeliner when I need something a little blown out and messy.

colourpopsupershockshadowwattles

colourpopsupershockshadaowwattlesswatch

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Wattles $5.00

While I love playing around with lots of different eye shadows, I always love a color like this one Wattles from Colourpop that looks good all on it’s own. I pat this all over my lid and buff it into the crease for a super easy and subtle dusty rose eye look. Because it is a cream like shadow it lasts all day on me and never creases or fades.

stilaglitterandglowliquideyeshadowkittenkarma

stilakittenkarmaswatch

Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Kitten Karma $24.00

When I want to add a bit of glitter to an eye look, I always reach for this shadow from Stila. The doe foot applicator makes using it a breeze, and the glitter never looks patchy or tacky. There is minimal fall out when applied, and once it dries to glitter stays put instead of ending up all over my cheeks and lashes.

inglotbrowpowder567

inglotbrowpowder567swatch

Inglot Brow Powder in 567 $7.00

I know this swatch may look super faint and not very pigmented, but that is what I love about this product! When it comes to brows, I need my products to be easy to build up and hard to over-do, and this powder from Inglot is just that. I wear this neutral shade daily and it lasts all day even when I don’t set it with a gel.

marcjacobsbeautyhighlinergelcrayonirony

marcjacobsbeautyhighlinerironyswatch

Marc Jacobs Beauty Matte Gel Highliner in (Iron)y $25.00

While I have always loved these gel liners from Marc Jacobs, this year I really fell in love with this particular color. I usually don’t stray far from dark brown liners, but something about this taupe gray caught my eye. It is perfect for smudging on the lash line to make my lashes look more full and blown out.

benefitcosmeticsrollerlashmascara

Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Mascara $24.00

I have always loved this mascara, but this year I really found myself wearing it daily. It curls my short, straight lashes so I can give the eyelash curler a rest and go a little more natural. It never flakes off or irritates my sensitive eyes, and it lasts all day. I have already bought a few back ups to have around for when this one dries out!

flowerbeautyzoominultimatemascara

flowerbeautyzoominultimatemascarawand1

flowerbeautyzoominultimatemascarawand2

Flower Beauty Zoom-In Ultimate Mascara $10.00

A drugstore mascara that I have been loving is this interesting one from Flower Beauty, Drew Barrymore’s line at Walmart. The wand starts very straight to add length, and then you can twist it to add volume. I hate layering mascaras too much, so having both options in one is super helpful and easy to use in the morning when I am in a rush.

Lips

doseofcolorsliquidlipsticktruffle

doseofcolorstruffleswatch

Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick in Truffle $18.00

I found my favorite liquid lipstick formula this year, and I haven’t been able to stop wearing the shade Truffle. It is the perfect neutral pinky brown nude, and it matches whatever eye look I create. This formula never dries out my lips and it lasts forever before it starts to fade in a very natural way.

marcjacobsbeautyeatcakeswatch

Marc Jacobs Beauty New Nudes Sheer Gel Lipstick in Eat Cake $30.00

While I love a brown based nude, I always have a soft spot for salmon pinks like this, especially in a sheer formula. This color from Marc Jacobs is so soft and feminine, and it always looks effortless and young no matter what I pair it with. I love the taupe packaging and always feel so glamorous when reapplying throughout the day!

buxmfullonlipcreams

buxomfullonlipcreamswatch

Buxom Full On Lip Creams $20.00

I love lip gloss, and most of the time you will find me wearing one of these lip creams from Buxom. They are just so easy and effortless, and the colors are super flattering. I have the shades Mudslide, Blushing Margarita, and Dolly and I love each one. There is nothing better for work than a subtle pink gloss without any glitter or shimmer. If I could, I would own every single shade!

fentybeautyglossybombuniversallipluminizer

fentybeautyglossybombswatch

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer $18.00

When I want something more sultry and shimmery than the Buxom Lip Creams, I have been reaching for this new gloss from Fenty Beauty. This brown nude is so flattering on so many different skin tones, and it just makes my lips look full and plump without looking totally fake.

lauramercierlippencilnatural

lauramercierlipencilnaturalswatch

Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Natural $25.00

Rarely do I overline my lips, but when I do, this is the only color I use. I read about this shade in a model’s Top Shelf post on Into The Gloss from forever ago, and haven’t been able to put it down since. This warm nude matches my lips almost perfectly, so it always looks natural when I trace just the tiniest bit above and below my natural lip line. If you have fair to medium skin and love to over line, give this pencil a try!

Thanks for sticking with me to the end, and I cannot wait to see what the new year has to offer us all! Let me know your favorites from 2017 and what some of your beauty goals are for 2018!

Glowingly yours,

Jess
