I feel like I haven’t done a monthly favorites post in a while, so I thought I would collect some of the items I have been loving the past few months and share them with you all! Posts like these are always my favorite to read on other blogs, so I promise I will be more diligent about posting one of these monthly. Let’s just get right into some of my most loved items these past few weeks!
I have rediscovered the beauty of this high coverage foundation from Clinique. I tucked it away in the back of my foundation drawer and forgot how amazing it is for my oily skin in the winter months. It is thick enough to provide coverage without feeling heavy or suffocating on the skin. The oversized doe foot wand makes application so easy and quick, perfect for when I am running a bit behind schedule in the morning. It has a more satin matte finish, so it never makes my face look flat or dull, just smooth and flawless!
This new foundation from Physician’s Formula was not something I expected to love os much. Whenever I see the word ‘healthy’ I assume it means glowy and luminous, and I stay far far away. After seeing so many people raving about this though I just had to give it a try, and it is stunning! It has the same style applicator as the Clinique foundation, so I never find myself with too much product on my brush or my face. This has a more sheer, satin finish than the Clinique, but it does provide medium coverage if you build it up.
I have been loving a few of the Burt’s Bees blush shades, but this one in Toasted Cinnamon is one of my new favorite blushes of all time, both high end and drugstore. The color is so versatile, and when I wear this I don’t need to wear much if any bronzer with it, because it has such a warm brown undertone. This is very pigmented, so I need to use a light hand, but it blends so flawlessly that even if I apply a bit too much I can fix it in seconds. These appear matte in the pan, but they have just a hint of a satin shift, so they look very healthy and natural on the skin, never powdery or patchy. I find that this shade in particular lasts all day on my skin, no matter what foundation I have on underneath.
Introducing the most intense highlight Colourpop has to offer: Flexitarian! I have been seeing this so much recently I had to try it out, and I was not disappointed. This gives my cheeks that insane, wet highlight look, and it photographs so beautifully. These Super Shock Cheek products have such an interesting consistency, so I prefer to apply this with my fingers if I want it to be super intense, or with a damp beauty sponge for a more subtle look. My favorite part about this product is that I can wear it over powder without it bunching or pilling up due to it having a creamy formula.
I have no idea why everybody isn’t talking about this eye primer! I am super picky when it comes to lid primers, my entire eye area is very dry and many products end up making me look cakey and terrible. I was a little hesitant to use this because I didn’t know how a formula meant for both eyes and lips would work, but it has the perfect balance of slip and tackiness. This makes any shadow I put on top apply smoothly and blend easily, and it keeps my shadow vibrant all day long. I haven’t tried this as a lip primer yet, because I usually just wear a balm underneath my lip colors, but I honestly don’t want to waste any of it because I love it so much!
I have plenty of tinted brow mascaras that I love, but I am always searching for a clear brow gel that doesn’t leave my brows crunchy or wet all day. I decided to try this gel out after reading some great reviews, and I was a little taken aback by the white tint. When you first apply it your brows will have a tiny white cast, but I just tap my fingers over my brows and the cast disappears. This gel keeps my brows in place all day long, and it has an almost matte look which I much prefer over glossy, overly gelled brows.
Rarely do I splurge on a lip gloss, but as soon as I laid eyes on this shade I knew I needed to have it. This item is one of those formulas that straddles the line between gloss and a liquified lipstick, the pigmentation is crazy and it lasts much longer on the lips than a traditional gloss. This color is my perfect work lip, it is muted enough to look professional but eye catching enough to really pull a look together. Even after the intense shine fades, the rich mauve color is left behind for hours. If you want to spend money on a lip gloss, let it be one from this line!
Lately I have been loving facial sprays like this one that fall into both the make up and skin care categories. The winter months wreak havoc on my combination skin, and being as oily as I am I am just not well equipped to deal with sudden dryness. Lately when I wake up, I sometimes feel like the dry heat has zapped the life out of my skin, so a hydrating product like this is a godsend. I spray this on my skin right before I begin doing my makeup, and again right after if I need a little extra moisture. It doesn’t do anything to make my make up last any longer, but it does really melt everything together and calm any dry patches I may have.
I have a much more detailed post dedicated to this exfoliator here, but to sum it up I will just say that this product is a life saver for someone with cystic acne like me. When I break out, it is large, subdermal and painful, so your classic topical spot treatment just doesn’t do it for me. I need a product like this that I can use daily to prevent and stop my break outs before they even begin. I use this every night after cleansing and before applying any serums I may be using. It never irritates my sensitive skin or leaves me feeling dry or red.
This has been my latest skin care obsession, and I cannot stop recommending it to everyone! I love sleeping masks, I feel like they make the most difference to my skin, and I can still feel them the next morning when I wake up. This mask from Glow Recipe has had a noticeable effect on my skin since I started using it. This product has both exfoliating AHAs and Hyaluronic Acid, so it brightens my skin while also hydrating and plumping it. I was worried that it may be just a little too heavy, because oily products like this can cause me to break out, but it never clogs my pores or dulls my skin. And the best part about this stuff? It smells like watermelon candy!
Rarely do I fall head over heels with a hair product as hard and as fast as I have with this leave in spray from Briogeo. I have very thick, long, straight hair and my ends are still damaged from a blonde dye job from a few years back. I am always looking for a product that can give me hydration and smoothness without weighing down my already heavy, flat hair. This spray leaves my strands feeling healthy and shiny, but never greasy or over saturated with product. I just need a few pumps and my hair is tangle free and luscious all day long!
I can never have enough nude polish, and when I saw this new shade from Essie I just couldn’t help myself. This is a cream formula that applies opaque in two coats. The color is so unique to me, but I cannot quite put my finger on what makes it stand out. It has a very neutral base, so it will work for many different undertones. I get a good week of wear out of this shade without any chipping or oxidizing.
While I feel pretty confident in my knowledge of all things beauty, I am just not cool enough when it comes to fashion. I have extremely stylish friends, and I am always jealous of their effortless ability to throw together a simple yet perfect outfit. I decided to dedicate some of my time to remedying my hopeless sense of style. I have been loving this simple style guide from cool girl Pernille Teisbaek, a popular fashion influencer from Copenhagen. This book is not only informative, it is just so fun to look at. Filled with glossy color photos of simple, chic outfits and intricately styled rooms, I just feel hip reading it!
