When a celebrity owned brand announces it’s launch, I usually assume that it will come onto the scene with one big product and a ridiculous amount of PR and advertising, then slowly fade back into next to nothingness. When Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty back in September of 2017, it immediately felt different. Instead of one mediocre eyeshadow palette, we got a fully flushed out brand with products in every category, and a foundation shade range that changed the industry.

Here we are three years later and Fenty continues to impress us with staple products reimagined. The original Soft Matte Longwear Foundation was an instant favorite for me, so when I saw that they were releasing a new foundation I kept my fingers crossed that it would be the same high quality I was used to. Whenever I see the word ‘hydrating’ in a foundation, I start to worry that maybe it will be too sheer, or too greasy, or that it will slide off my face completely within the hour. This foundation proved all of those assumptions wrong.

The formula is much closer to the original matte foundation than I thought it would be, but with an added level of moisture and blend-ability which translates to the most natural satin finish on the skin. In the fall and winter months the hydration this foundation packs has been such a lifesaver for my skin. Moving from the cold outside to the dry heat inside my work can wreak havoc on my skin, leaving me with rouge dry patches that foundation can cling to. This foundation applied with a beauty blender smooths over those trouble spots without looking caked on.

As far as longevity goes, I was surprised by how long this lasted on my skin. I do need to set this with a powder, but after I do, it stays put all day long. Both powder and cream cheek products blend beautifully into this, nothing ever sits on top or pills. If you have combination to dry skin, I cannot recommend this foundation enough, especially if you loved the Soft Matte Fenty Foundation also!
